Some long awaited features have been finally released.

You can now post notes to Pownce and access all your notes from the homepage. To unlock these feature, please authenticate with Pownce from the settings page.

The rePownce Bot is now live. rePownce B. will process notes for status syncing and feed publishing. If you are a new user and haven’t received a request from rePownce B. within 24 hours, please contact me with your username for quicker processing.

Finally, you can sync your status with all, public, nonpublic, or private notes. To sync nonpublic or private notes, make sure rePownce B. is set as a friend.

If you encounter any bugs, just let me know.

Who is rePownce Bot?

rePownce will soon be using an alternative strategy for publishing notes to Facebook. The current method has become slow and inadequate as the user base grows.

The Pownce user “rePownce Bot” will be used to aggregate recent notes of all rePownce users. This change will allow rePownce to better process recent notes to users’ Facebook and reduce the load on the Pownce API.

By having rePownce Bot as a fan, rePownce will be able to publish your recent public notes. rePownce can also publish your non-public notes when rePownce Bot is allowed as a friend. All notes aggregated by rePownce Bot will be kept private and only be used to process your notes to Facebook.

No action is required of you so as long as you have rePownce Bot as a fan. Recent updates will still be processed with the current method until the new strategy is ready to be pushed out.

Any feedback is welcome, either leave a comment or contact me.

Format and Filter

The processing of notes being published to the Facebook feed has been tweaked for better formatting.

The filter for status updates has been added. Only notes that are messages and are within 60 160 characters (including prefix) will be used in status updates.

Update: Ack! The status update limit was actually 160 characters, so I’ve changed the filter to that.

Status Filter

To help better the quality of status updates, I am considering of applying a filter when syncing status. Notes that exceed the status update character limit would be filtered, to prevent truncating. The filter would only allow messages and exclude links and events.

Would there be any objections if such a filter is applied? Should it be left as an option? Or is there another condition that should be considered? Leave a comment below.
